What our clients say
"Me and my family have just returned from our marvelous cruise in the Mediterranean. We booked all our tours and transfers with SPB Mediterranean. We used them in the Baltic before and were delighted. They are a first class outfit. They also have a 5 star rating on TripAdvisor. That is why we decided to book them again for our shore excursions in Barcelona, Livorno and Rome. We could not be happier with all their services, simply perfect in everything."
Full-day Rome: Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill
You will be picked up at your ship in Civitavecchia and begin your journey to Rome. In Rome the tour will start with a panoramic drive including the Pyramid of Caius Cestius, The Aurelian Walls, Caracalla Baths, Circus Maximus, Venice Square, Marcello Theatre, the Temple of Vesta and Portunus to reach the Colosseum where you will have a Skip-the-line reservation to enter and visit the most important amphitheatre in the Roman world, built between 75 and 80 AD, and large enough to seat 80.000 spectators at Roman events.
It was used as amphitheatre until 523 when, under Theodoric, the gladiator games were prohibited. The tradition says this was the place where the first Christians were martyred .
Next to it is the Arch of Costantine, the biggest and best preserved ancient arch. Erected in 315 to commemorate Constantine’s triumph on Maxentius, it is realised with structures and decorations belonging to monuments from previous age. will explore the ruins of the Roman Forum, the political, social and religious heart of the ancient city. Here we will see the Senate House, the ruins of many Temples (including one to "Divine" Julius Caesar) and the original paving stones of the Via Sacra, route of Triumphal Processions.
Then climb up to the Palatine Hill, where Rome was founded in the 8th century BC. We will visit the ruins of the Imperial Palace with views over the Circus Maximus, where the chariot races were staged.
